Besides loving history and teaching, if you know me well you know that I also love shopping. Normally, I don’t get very excited about a product; however, I feel compelled to share the Emily Ley Simplified Teacher Planner with you. I had been using another company to purchase a customized teacher planner for the last two years, but this year when I went to purchase the other planner it was going to cost me nearly $70 once I paid for shipping. We’re teachers, we can’t break the bank for a cute organizer. Cue in Emily Ley.

I saw an advertisement for this particular planner on Facebook (I know, I know), but I need a planner, I like when the planner is pretty and has some bells and whistles, and I was desperate for one that wasn’t ridiculously expensive. The Emily Ley Simplified Teacher Planner was advertised at 50% off, so I clicked the link. The planner was $30 at 50% off, which already was less than half of what I was going to spend and $25 less than what I’ve spent in the past. I dug around for some more coupon codes, and found code backtoschool50, which gave me ANOTHER 50% off. Folks, this planner was $15 plus $9 shipping. I couldn’t’ be more thrilled with the price, but with that also came a risk, from which I reaped a great reward!

The planner is a dream. Granted, I wasn’t able to customize the cover so I’ll have to personalize it myself (which can actually be more fun), but other than that it has everything my old planner did, plus some.

The spiral notebook-type planner is actually housed inside a hard binder. It is 10.25 x 11.25 inches (1.5 inches thick), so not too large and not too small for my taste. It includes 5 sticker pages (yessss!) and several other features including:

  • An “About Me” page that not only gives space for your name and grade and other information in case you lose your planner, but it also has some great space for you to reflect upon your yearly goals, professional development sessions, and a place to record your login information for classroom resources.
  • There’s a place for you to write down your weekly and daily routines- again to make yourself organized, which is half the battle during the school year, at least for me.
  • A colorful student info sheet – though there’s only enough room for 26 students. Later in the planner there are 3 student checklists with enough room for 26 students.
  • A substitute info and emergency info sheet.
  • And more places for reflection- I love that there’s a section for the teacher’s “core values” and “educational inspiration!”
  • Notebook paper and graph paper.

The quality of the planner is also great in addition to its features. The paper is heavyweight and the entire planner has a well-made feel.

For an additional charge, you can also purchase other organization accessories, like page markers (I wish this planner had just come with one) and paper clips, as well as more stickers.

Overall, I am really, really pleased with my Emily Ley Simplified Teacher Planner. It was more than fairly priced and was definitely made with teachers’ needs in mind. If you don’t have a planner yet, this is one of the best options I’ve seen in years. Go get yours!
